Product Images
If you are participating in our Artist Directory Listing only, please refer to the instructions on our Basic Representation page. You must upload your artwork images to your Flickr account, tag them with the word “Donterra” and email our webmaster your Flickr ID. Then she will add your Flickr artwork image stream to your profile page.
The following information is for those artists participating in our shopping cart program and other related art marketing campaigns.
Image Titles and Descriptions
All image file titles must begin with your artist code followed by hyphen and a unique four-digit inventory number (i.e. if your artist code is BJT, the file names would look like BJT-0001.jpg, BJT-0002.jpg, BJT-0003.jpg, and so on). If your artwork has not been assigned an inventory number, you may create your own. There are free utilities to help you in changing file names in batches. If you use popular digital image editing programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, and Corel Paintshop Pro, use the File Information option to embed your product information in the file. You can Google all your options or check out one of the following:
- Windows Users – Ant Renamer
- Mac Users – File Renamer Pro
If you are participating in our shopping cart program, please remember to limit your image product titles to 50 characters including spaces. You will need to write a short product description for each product to be used as a teaser; this description is limited to 75 characters; there is no character limit for the full product description you can add to the items in our online shopping cart service. It is to your advantage to include the dimensions of your art piece in the product description. If you are offering framed paintings or prints, you should include unframed as well as framed sizes. For us to calculate shipping costs, you will also need to add the dimensions and weight of your items offered for sale in our online store. Weight in our shopping cart is listed by pound. You will find a free ounce to pound conversion application at UnitConversion.Org.
Image Sizes
Product image quality plays a significant role in our ability to market an artist’s work, not just on the Internet but through our offline advertising and promotional campaigns. If you would like us to promote your work in any of our marketing activities other than for the web, we will need you to provide images in multiple sizes and resolutions. Following are specific guidelines to help you in rendering the images for our marketing efforts.
Images For Web Representation
The image aspect ratio must be 4:3, whether you are providing an image taken in landscape or portrait mode. Because these images are being viewed on computer screens, the resolution should be set at 72 dpi. If you set the resolution for print (300 ppi, 600 ppi, etc.), your image will look much smaller on screen than others its same size rendered at 72 dpi. The maximum width and length of digital images provided for web presentation are each 512 pixels. Image sizes should be 512×387 or 500×375 pixels (landscape) or 387×512 or 375 pixels x500 pixels (portrait) and square images should be 500×500 pixels. Your image color profile must be RGB, preferably Camera RGB or Adobe 98 RGB. The file prefix should be your artist code followed by a hyphen and inventory or tracking number you have assigned to your product (i.e. YN-0001).
Images for Print Promotion
If you would like us to promote your artwork through any of our print advertising or public relations campaigns, we will need high-resolution digital images of no less than 1200 px width or length (i.e. 4×6 photo at 300 ppi is 1200×1800 pixels), CMYK color profile . To learn more about printer profiles, refer to the Dry Creek Photo white paper (PDF) or search ICC printer profiles through Google.
Images for Video Promotion
Another way we are planning to promote artwork represented in our online gallery and store is via video screen scene displays, both in our Sisters gallery and third-party locations we’ve deemed viable in providing the best exposure for our artists. If you would like your artwork to be included in those promotions, the images should be in the 16:9 image aspect ratio; we prefer digital images in 1280×720 or 1920×1080 pixel image sizes. As this program roles out later in 2010, we will be providing further information and file upload instructions to those interested.
