Tomlin, Barbara
Artist Statement
According to my mother, I scribbled my first real masterpiece when I was two. I sewed my first garment all by myself when I was four. On my ninth birthday I told my family I wanted to be an artist when I grew up. I wanted to design clothes, dishes and jewelry and I wanted to teach the world how I did it all. A pretty big goal set for a nine year old. As life twisted and turned, I pursued my artistic ambitions while setting and achieving other career goals my father considered more sensible. Now that half my lifetime has passed, I am finally able to focus on my artistic passions. I am currently concentrating on the convergence of digital art media with traditional art media, taking the result beyond the scope of what is considered reality today.
About Artist Barbara Tomlin
Barbara has been dabbling in a variety of art media since childhood. In the 20th century she was best known in the art world for her Cloisonné on Glass artwork sold in galleries and finer gift shops of the Pacific Northwest and Canada. Emerging as one of the first true convergence artists of the 21st century, Barbara embraces the Participation Age art mediamorphosis by combining traditional art media applications with those computer-generated. Her current areas of convergence art concentration include digital watercolor creations, avatar fashion design, and machinima productions.
Barbara has been involved in sport ballooning activities for more than 30 years. Thus, many of her artistic expressions feature hot air and gas balloons from centuries past and present, from both the real and virtual worlds. She was honored to work with the Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum Foundation in producing a variety of artwork for sale in the Museum Gift Shoppe to commemorate its opening in 2005. She continues to work with ballooning artists, pilots and event sponsors to promote the art, sport and history of ballooning.
