Rupprecht, Ronald
Artist Statement
Growing up, I was always making something. Usually out of wood. I’ve also been a musician since I was twelve, playing guitar and singing. My father was a woodworker and a homebuilder, and naturally I followed in his footsteps doing finish carpentry and contracting. I love the look and art of guitars and display mine on the walls of my studio. My love for red wine and music gave me the idea to make one using corks, and finally did so, modeling it after the Breedlove models, made here in Bend, Oregon.
Since that first model, I have had requests for my guitars and other cork art. My wife and I love to work with the corks , and find the artwork on the corks to be fascinating. We try to use the logos, names and designs that we find most interesting. We have even had requests to make our cork art using wine corks that are supplied by clients because of their personal taste in wine or memories.
We also appreciate the green aspect of using the corks rather than seeing them simply thrown into the trash. It’s a great way to make use of a diminishing resource.
About Ronald Rupprecht
Ron Rupprecht has lived in Oregon for all of his life, so far. Growing up in the Portland area he worked for and had his own construction company building custom homes. The finish work was always his art. Stair railings, mantels, and trim work were his art. He raised two daughters, who are grown and on their own now. He moved to Bend, Oregon in 2001. The bend community inspires one to slow down and enjoy life, and a different kind of art seemed the way to go. With music, wine and art as a inspiration, the Cork Guitars just “happened’. Along with his wife, Gayle, they make different types of cork art as well.
