Rob Ramage Artist Statement
I am strongly attracted to the natural landscape and immensely enjoy being in natural lands and wildernesses. In being in these special areas, I express my passion and excitement by drawing and painting not only what I see but more importantly what I experience by being there. I paint both a physical landscape as well as a inner landscape. The inner landscape, while personal, is a key for art opening an intellectual realm to all of us. Through this combination of body and mind, I see myself as a contemporary artist but with roots in Impressionism and Post-Impressionism.

About Rob Ramage
Rob Ramage is an emerging Northwest painter who resides in Portland, Oregon area. He works primarily in pastel and oil mediums but in recent years has been become printmaker. Rob’s interest is in the landscape and he lives in Northwest to be close to a variety of geography and geology in wild lands. His work starts with plein air paintings, sketches and experiences in the Northwest landscape. Rob strives to create in his work both physical landscape but also an inner landscape where the mind’s experience of a place plays a part.

A Portland collector described Rob’s work by stating “I’ve been looking at a lot of art and nobody puts color on a canvas more effectively than Rob. He must have an intense response to what he sees, a sensory love affair with nature. The result is a distinctive style of painting which enlivens the most placid scene without slipping over into excess.” In 2008, he has recently received the Director’s Purchase Award and an Honorable Mention in the Pastel National 2008 show in Wichita, Ka and was the Juror for Art Splash in Tualatin, Oregon.
