Pohl, Daro
Artist Statement
Although social issues have been the inspiration for Daro’s paintings, the sources of inspiration of the mixed media pieces Daro creates come from his travels and from the raw material itself: the intriguing pattern and shape of the wood, metal, fiber natural or man-made material, which he envisions and is able to transform into a truly unique work of art.
Daro has exhibited his hand-bound journals, books and sculptures in various galleries in the central Ohio area. Mostly, he has exhibited his work at juried art shows, fairs and festivals throughout the Midwest, as well as North Carolina and Georgia. Daro has been recognized for his art numerous times, winning awards in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
About Artist Daro Pohl
Daro Pohl was born on January 1, 1961 in Santiago, Chile. He’s had several careers before becoming a full time artisan. In 1998, he chose to dedicate all of his efforts to becoming an artist, drawing inspiration from the contemporary social issues of his country, to paint with acrylics on large canvasses. Daro enjoyed recognition and succes in Chile before emigrating to Ohio in 2003.
Although he studied graphic art design at the university level in Santiago, most of his abilities are self-taught. Important also was his grandfather, a disciplined craftsman, next to whom Daro, as a young boy, acquired many of the skills he applies today. His mother, an accomplished textile designer and weaver, whose weavings Daro sometimes incorporates into his pieces, continues to be influential in his creativity.
