Artist Statement

Jacqueline Newbold’s life journey gives her a never-ending source of inspiration to represent gems of the world in her color-filled paintings.  Her watercolor journal has become her constant companion everywhere she travels.  Primarily a watercolor artist, she loves to explore creative ways to incorporate mixed media into her art.  Using a warm and playful color palette, Jacqueline enjoys capturing a moment in time by painting European hilltop villages, dappled sunlight on a field of lavender, or the brilliance of a tropical beach.  She introduces color in the shadows and sun-drenched areas, which creates a luminous glow in her paintings. When at home in her studio, the small journal sketches and paintings often provide the bases for her larger creations.

I am a traveler and an artist and I love mixing the two!

About Jacqueline Newbold
Growing up with a military family, traveling has been part of Jacqueline Newbold’s life since she was born in Tokyo, Japan. Her mother was born in Paris, France and married the love of her life, an American G.I. from Iowa at the end of World War II. Their young family of four traveled the world and lived in foreign countries giving her an international upbringing and a love for travel. They settled in Montgomery, Alabama where she graduated from the University of Alabama. Realizing that she had traveled many parts of the world, Jacqueline had never been to the western states of America. So packing all her belongings in a VW camper she spent time in Washington, California, and Oregon and her gypsy life was left behind when she took up residence in Bend, Oregon. It was here that she took her first watercolor class and has not stopped painting since.

Jacqueline is a painter of color and shares her expression of colorful light in both her award-winning art and by teaching at her studio, the Bend Art Station and at the Art & Soul Retreats in Portland, Oregon. Whether it is the dappled sunlight on fields of lavender or the brilliance of a tropical beach, she introduces color in the shadows and sun-drenched areas that captures a luminous glow in her paintings.

She led a painting trip to Saint Remy de Provence, France in September 2009. This trip included a day of painting in the gardens of the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole Monastery, overlooking the olive trees where Vincent Van Gogh lived and painted.
