Artist Statement
My work encompasses mixed media arts, book arts, papermaking and printmaking.
Printmaking is my specialty; including etching, lithography, linocut, woodcut collagraph, and monoprint.
Many of my creations are hand-pulled prints. Each color is applied by hand, one at a time onto a wood block or metal plate.
About Abigail Merickel
A native of Northern Minnesota, educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, Italy, and a Central Oregon resident, Abigail has been actively involved in the art world as an award winning painter and multi-media printmaker, instructor and world traveler. Drawing on inspiration from her classical European training, steeped in art history, Abigail also reaches back to her love of American Folk Art. Vivid in color and storytelling her works are best described as a love, a lyrical expression, a kind of childlike whimsy and wonder at the world, perhaps ever so gently tinged by melancholy. Abigail’s adventures, both real and imagined, and her love of children, travel, music, foreign cultures, nature and the great outdoors are a continual source of inspiration in her art work.
