Jett, Leart
Artist StatementThe day in kindergarten that I first strung bright wooden beads on a shoe string was the day that I fell in love with beads. I would go to thrift stores with my mother and beg her to buy me old necklaces and beaded purses so that I could re-string the beads. Bless her heart, she indulged me and gave me the beginnings of a life long passion for the old beads.
By the end of high school, I had a nice collection (polite word for a whole bunch) of antique and vintage beads. I would make them into earrings which I would then trade to friends for their old broken jewelry. That cycle continues today. Using the antique and vintage beads, I create jewelry which highlights the beauty of the old beads while putting them into comtempory styles.
In the past 7 years I have added antique and vintage buttons to my jewelry creations. Buttons, like beads, are connections to another day and age. Each one is a tiny work of art and when used in jewelry, brings the past into the present.
I am a self -taught and inner directed artist. Whimsy and my strange sense of humor are as much a part of working with the beads and buttons as is the color and beauty of them. My philosopy is that jewelry should be as unique as you are and that life is too short to wear boring jewelry.
Enjoy the beads, handle them with reverance and care, they have traveled a long time and a great distance to reach your hands.
