Leithauser, Karen
Artist StatementGrowing up in an artistic family, I have many memories of canvases, easels, and the smell of oil paints. I am proud to be the third of four generations of artists in my family. I am a self-taught artist, but I am certain I learned many things watching my mother and grandfather. I like to believe there is a genetic component as well.
I have been experimenting with different art mediums since I was a teenager. I started with pencil and charcoal pencil sketchings of mostly wildlife. Over the years I have tried my hand at colored pencils, pastels, and oil pastels. I began painting with acrylics about 10 years ago and then stared painting with oils more recently. Painting has become my passion.
Currently my painting has taken a new direction in the form of Murals for local businesses. It thrills me to think of the hundreds of people who will view and enjoy my work.
