Artist Statement
I first started scrolling about eight years ago after visiting a gentleman in Central Oregon, who was involved with Scroll Sawing. He proudly showed me some of his projects and I fell in love with this art form. On the way home my wife informed me I had just missed the turn to our home and my reply was “Yes, I know, but I am going to Salem to buy me a Scroll Saw so I can start cutting” and so the story began.
From scrolling in the early days with any wood I could find or buy, I slowly started concentrating on the use of Bass Wood with the bark attached. The wood I used was both the rounds and slab planks. This was something not normally done by the typical scroll saw artist so I was able to produce an art form that was highly in demand.
I started selling to people that came to me through word of mouth advertising. I then moved on to small craft shows and now I have my art work in a number of galleries and various other outlets. I still cannot resist the Christmas Bazaars however, so I try to include several of them each season.
After scrolling for about five years, I started working with Intarsia Wood Art. However, I found that I had difficulty obtaining and maintaining the quality and quantity of various woods required for true Intarsia, so I began using stains to achieve the wood colors I desired. This resulted in a product known as Segmentation that very closely resembles true intarsia but can be produced and marketed at a more affordable price. The end result is a truly beautiful piece of wood art that you would be proud to display in your home or place of business.
Both the Scroll Art and Intarsia/Segmentation Art is achieved using a Scroll Saw. The wood is cut, sanded, stained (if needed) and assembled by myself to produce the final product.
I hope you enjoy my wood art as much as I do.
