Fouse, Robert
Artist Statement
I ventured into art at a very young age. I was rised in a supportive enviroment with educated bohemian parents. Mom was an artist/school teacher and Dad was a musician/accountant. Active conversations evolved in our home about art music and such, the gist of which was to take to path less followed.
I create my art to allow for an outlet from the daily grind. I have worked 40 years in the high voltage utiltiy industry. Not a lot of room for creativity when dealing with electricity; it obeys the laws of physics the one can not change. So, out of the need to let the juices flow appears my art.
I draw my inspiration from the natural world. I create my impressions of that world using the parts and pieces from it. My work is physically heavy, requires noisy work; grinding, beating, banging, welding, hammering and such to accomplish the interpretation. I use steel, stone, concrete, wood, copper, color and whatever strikes my fancy to present my vision of our world to you.
About Robert Fouse
I grew up with support form my parents in what I like to refer to as LA or as us North Floridian’s love to call the place Lower Alabama. My first art project was a Christmas villiage built in my front yard at about age 8. I must have drug 20 ice box crates to the house form the Sears wearhouse located about three blocks away. It was good enough to win the best Christmas display that year. I had to destroy it at the end of the season because we had no place to store it —too massive to put it anyplace.
While growing up I put various pieces in the county fair and usually won something. I have dabbled in oil and water color which I can do but just find it too tame for me.
Through out my working years I never took art very serious, creating peices just for myself, friends and family. Now that I have the time I find that I really enjoy doing my things. I built my first water fountain In 2000 and it has brought moderate sucess, just need more time. I have moved on from those to stone/ slate carving. Anyway life goes on and my head is so full of ideas I hope l live long enough to bring them all out for your enjoyment.
