Linda Gillard
Artist Statement
The discovery of Central Oregon’s amazing quality of light drew me to Bend numerous years ago.  I now devote much of my time to painting that stunningly beautiful light so prevalent in the landscape of our high desert plateau and surrounding mountains.

In college, after studying 3-dimenional art and still needing to complete my science requirements, I discovered geomorphology, the study of landforms and the processes that shape them. Having this understanding of the land along with an abiding love for the outdoors, and enjoying the spontaneity of plein air painting, much of my work is done on location. I work in pastel, acrylic, watercolor, oil, and any other media that captures my imagination, continually searching for the radiance, which inspires my paintings and drawings. One of the “other” media that I am currently working with is baling wire, saved from the early days on our ranch …creating cleaver figurative work.

About Artist Linda Gillard
Linda migrated from 3-dimensional artwork to 2-dimensional as many moves cross-country over the years limited what could be packed once again. She first took up watercolors …you can still sense this in her pastel paintings. Some of the most influential workshops were with Bob Rohm, Richard McKinley, Dawn Emerson, Skip Lawrence, Carla O’Connor and Clive Tyler. An Alexander Calder retrospective at the SF MOMA inspired adventures with a found material, baling wire.
