Creating art is a joyous process for me.  There is such sweetness and happiness to be had while capturing accurate shapes, blocks of color and lines of expression.  My desire is to capture and preserve the simple but extravagent beauty of the people and world around us.

Right now I work primarily in oil paints on stretched canvas.  The bright strong colors are very enticing.  I love the way they can be smoothed and roughed up across the canvas.

I absolutely love doing portraits of people and animals.  Another favorite subject is water in all forms:  seascapes, flowing rivers and waterfalls.  Currently, I’m exploring landscapes that include mountain peaks, fields of flowers and desert colors.

About Leah Franklin
My educational and professional background, strangely enough, has been primarily in science and medicine.  Art was always a passionate hobby and I often found reasons to take art classes at Lane Community College simply for the joy of it.  Eventually, I earned two associate degrees at LCC.  I worked for almost ten years as a paramedic and just completed a B.S.  with a general science major and human physiology and chemistry minors at the University of Oregon in Eugene.   It was approximately two hours later that I decided to scrap all of that and pursue a career in art.  I’ve been painting for the past year and creating beautiful art is now my full-time focus.
