Durbin, Nancy Emerson
Artist Statement
I approach each piece of jewelry as a story to be told. And in the telling every creation takes days, and sometimes weeks to come together as wearable art. Sitting at my work bench in Camp Sherman I implore nature for inspiration. I tinker and cobble with beads and gems, scattered in all corners. As they are joined together with Fine and Sterling Silver wire, the thread of each story is formed and a beautiful, whimsical creation emerges.
Now I must return to my bench, my dog at my feet, and a fairy or two on my shoulder to imagine, to create and celebrate my latest find.
May you happily wear one of my stories.
About Nancy Emerson Durbin
Ever and always I knew I would create art. With a mother showing delight in my childhood creations, and a father providing loving support and encouragement, I chose my path, followed my heart and used my gift.
A History: My history in this charming and enchanting place we call Sisters has many twists and turns. Each experience has led me to, no pushed me to where I am today. From owning “Sadies Backdoor”, to florist and graphic designer for the last 30 years, my hands have given character to store and business logo, menu covers, media art, school mascots and rodeo art. After putting “Sadie” in retirement, and leaving graphic design to others, I now fill my days turning my passion for vintage and czech glass buttons, semi prescious gems and found objects, into jewelry.
