Emard, James
Artist Statement
For many years I desired to have a metal sculpture above my fireplace, and in 2009 was finally able to make time to create one. We not only loved the result, but also the experience, so I continued making them for others to enjoy. Though my original artwork reflected my love for nature and wildlife, I have gradually shifted my focus to include more of my old-fashioned faith and family values. I want others to look at my artwork and feel drawn to those same values that are close to my heart that they too might “Consider the wonder of God”. Hence, our business name — Steel Wonders.
My desire has been to create a quality piece of artwork. To do that, I use multiple layers of 1/8″ solid steel, hand cut, shaped and welded together to add depth and dimension to the scene. The coloring is done entirely with heat and sealed for a polished surface that responds with activity to changing light. With everything done by hand from design and drawing to coloring and sealing, each piece is “one of a kind”.
About James Emard
My wife Lisa and I moved from the Portland area to south central Oregon in 1999 and have raised our four children on a small ranch there. I am blessed with awesome views of mountains and lakes that often inspire my artwork.
I have worked with my hands since I was a young boy and have been building homes since the age of seventeen. Over the years my creativity has been expressed through home design, wildlife photography, and log furniture. Nearing the “empty nest” has allowed me more time to explore my art aspirations through metal wall sculptures.
My artwork has been exhibited in Oregon galleries, several shows, and the Favell Museum in Klamath Falls (artist of the month, April, 2010). One of my pieces was selected for the Taste of Klamath art exhibit (May, 2010) and received the third place award.
