Wendy Birnbaum
Artist Statement
My photography tells my story of what I see and feel in the world around me. I create my photographs first in my mind – photographs of the images which I both see and feel. My photographs portray my mental images of a world of beauty, history and life – in people, in their doors and windows, in the objects which they create, and in nature.
I lose myself in the creative process of capturing the essence of life and uniqueness of the subject – the story – that compelled me to create the image.
I have a great passion for traveling and exploring, and feel the heartbeat of the places I visit. My recent work reflects my true love and compassion for the people and cultures of the small villages in South America.
I invite you to see the world through my eyes, through my camera’s lens, through my photographs.

About Wendy Birnbaum
Aspiring to become a photojournalist at the age of twelve, I have maintained my interest in the magic of photography throughout my life. I studied photography at Orange Coast College in Southern California where I honed my skills in both the techniques and the visualization necessary to creative photography. There, I became enchanted with the creative possibilities of large format photography. During my many hours developing black and white prints in the darkroom, I gained a true appreciation for the melding of art and technique necessary to create rich and beautiful photographs.
I have recently migrated into the world of digital photography. But for me, the lessons of creating an excellent image in the camera still prevail.
I believe that each of us has a unique way of seeing the world around us. I share my way of seeing the world through my photographs. I invite you to see the world through my eyes, through my camera’s lens, through my photographs.
My husband Bill and I moved to Sisters, Oregon in July of 2008 following eight months of volunteer work in Peru and four months of travel in Ecuador, Chile and Argentina. We now enjoy a peaceful, tranquil life among the ponderosa pines and junipers above Whychus Creek Canyon. My South American adventures and my current, quiet life in Sisters greatly influence and inspire my artistic creativity.
