Artist Statement
My evolution into art began with my love of wood and stone. Fascinated by cave art and the study of and geology led me to the juxtaposition of combining inorganic material with organic material just as the cave artists did, but in reverse. I wanted to explore using stone to create an image on wood, instead of using wood/charcoal to create an image on stone. Also, I wanted to tell the story that was represented in the grain of the wood.

Each piece of wood is unique and has its own background pattern. And stone has its own unque texture, crystalline structure, hardness, color, and story of creation that spans the eons. Combining these two mediums in a piece of usable art satisfies the practical side of me. I hope you enjoy my piece as much as I enjoyed the process of creation.
